 No.6976

I had an op session yesterday on my N scale railway. A few things popped up and I wasn't able to take as many photos as I wanted, but here we go…

First, 7:30am: Train 11 is making its station stop at Castlegar while an empty ore train waits to follow it out.

The east Boundary sub wayfreight (Extra 4105 East) is working over the Kettle River in Grand Forks while 11 makes its way toward it.

11 exits the 2990' Bulldog tunnel and goes over the large fill at Porcupine Creek, a trestle filled in in the 1910s.

Past the summit, dynamic brakes now working with train brakes, it descends the 2.4% grade down McRae Canyon.

Extra 8421 West is close behind, seen here passing over a dry stone retaining wall high above Christina Lake

A hundred miles away, the Nelson sub wayfreight has arrived in Creston. They drop a block of 8 empties into the back track and pick up one loaded woodchip car headed for the Celgar paper mill.

The wayfreight is running as Extra 3001 West, and is running later than usual. It can't make it to Nelson, the end of its run, before second class train 984 is due, so there is a meet. This is the first meet here since I put the siding in last year!

Up the hill, the west Boundary wayfreight is running as time table 81, and is currently working a small lumber spur at Shields. I'm sure the crew is happy to have a relatively new C424 on the point.

Another train sneaks into Nelson from the east as Extra 8602 West.

81 gets to Grand Forks about the same time as Extra 4105 East arrives at Castlegar, the far side of the summit. There was a meet at Farron, but I was putting out some fire or other!

81 has to duck out of the way of #12, a first class train.

Due to people leaving, the session ended with 90, 91, and 92 not run, and 12 waiting on a crew at Nelson. Lots of power in the shops!

i was picking scale for me (prototype) game project

i think it all looks like shit (real scale, like in sim city 4 but not like in opettd or simutrans where different scales are used simultaneously)

So wait, is this YOURS or is it a club layout? It looks awesome!

All mine. If it were a club layout, there would be more random structures and scenery completion…

real scale is simple to do
but it looks too realistic (gay)

but mixed scale looks like 80s graphics

 No.6998

Well, no first operating session is going to be perfect, but it looks like yours went rather well overall. Good on you for making it happen!

>>6988

Maybe look at some flip-up desk surfaces or file holders bolted to the side of the layout? Or clipboards with clipboard hooks all over the place?

hmm maybe just make everything super-small like 1:1000 and the vehicles super big

what can i say.. it works

approx. 1:1000 scale for everything and x4 oversized trains and roads
looks nice AND unrealistic

Also lets you model much more area. Straight line distance between Newport and Milford is a couple of miles short of 90.

What was this created in?

these are screenshots from edushi 3d map, but this service doesn't work currently i don'w know why
some examples:
https://forums.cgsociety.org/t/edushi-3d-chinese-cities-with-amazing-details/1538627

graphics/map like this can be created in any 3d program with a few tweaks
but the map itself is just rendered tiles similar to openstreetmap or any other 2d map/internet map
