Happy New Year. I moved house yet again. Chico is no longer my nearest Amtrak station; now it's Dunsmuir. But at least Dunsmuir isn't as sketchy as Chico. I'd like to take the train more often.

Just watch out for those Talgos, when they derail it hurts.

Just Kidding. Happy New Year, 1chan.

So I was snooping on your new home station and noticed that there's a turntable on the other side of the mains. Does anyone actually use it?

And Here I am, wishing Happy New Year to you all… again, since apparently any in-thread congrats remain unnoticed here:)

In particular good wishes to 1524, our Finnish friend. Also wanted to remind that I have (finally - yes, sorry) answered to your posts regarding couplers. One of them is just out of the 5 preview posts so can be unnoticed easily.

Man, those Talgo demonstrators were quite literally a pain in the ass. Permanently-molded seat dividers and those metal tray peg recepticles made me want to either sit in the table car or take a Superliner train.

Then again, I should consider myself lucky.

I think it's used by a local railroad museum. The turntable works, but the roundhouse was torn down long ago. Still, Dunsmuir appears to be a fun place for foamers, even if it's a "sleep and you'll miss it" kind of place" on the Starlight. http://www.sfchronicle.com/travel/article/Little-town-of-Dunsmuir-is-big-on-trains-8375514.php

So this map is the freight corridors of Chicago. Anything special happening there?

Daww. Now I feel bad for not adding to my merry christmas: "I'm so late I may just have waited till 7th and greet happy orthodox chrismas in mr. Voz's thread, but that's kind of risque."

I haven't come up with anything nice, not wanting to hijack the thread, plus I'm more a tram buff so my knowledge on state railway things is comparably more patchy.

I wanted to ramble about various things though, like there actually are 3x Dv15 still roaming in Imatra, owned by "Imatran veturipalvelu", which is a private operator, as is "Ratarahti", renting a single Dv12-engine from the former company and so on, but meh. Wouldn't want it much more quick than that. I hear you guys have jokes about the Baltic Finns being slow.

Nothing.
Mr. harrison decided that improving Chicago rail access wasn't a worthy goal for CSX, so nothing is happening there.

Picture related, it's mr. harrison in the flesh.

>NIMBYs crying about railroads that already existed.
It's not like these trains are even parked on crossings. The second article is especially pathetic. Those are simply people complaining about idling trains sitting adjacent to their property.
