Watch her as she completes her first trial run in 7 years, what a sight! A huge thank you to the Apple Express Workshop and our volunteers, for their dedication and commitment to keep the loco and the carriages in magnificent condition, restoring them to a mint condition, for you to enjoy. Wow, would have never believed trains run on the 2 ft gauge railway of various superlatives (the longest general carrier, strongest locomotives, heaviest trains, the highes bridge); evetually all the way back to Avontuur?

What an accomplishment! I'll have to add this to my "visit someday" list.

The thing still looks huge as far as 610 mm stuff goes, is it really a 1067 loco with the wheels inside the frame? I have read of trams that did and still do this kind of thing to allow a same model to be fitted for both 1000 mm as well as 1435 without too intrusive modifications, just swapping to a different axle at easiest.

I understand something like 40 feet long and 5 ft 6 in (1676 mm) is about as wide as the Maine 2 footers went as the main body width of their wagons, minus some trimmings, railings, roof ledges and so on. Can't imagine it's that much different in SA; they should have about the same laws of physics as Maine.

Our current steam locomotive undergoing a full restoration at present at the Humewood Depot. There is something so special about narrow gauge steam! Is'nt she a beauty?
