Say that reminds me, arent all new locos supposed to be equipped with 'anti-climbers' that shove the engine to the side instead of riding up like that? They're really prominent on Dash-9's and other new GE locos.

>> No.18480

>>18470 Anti-climbers are installed to prevent telescoping, or shearing off the superstructure above the frame, in case of accident. You really need anticlimbers on BOTH units involved in a collision. Having an anticlimber hit an empty covered hopper is like using a blunt axe to smash a beer can.

ITT: The Dream, Plan, Build series. What do you think?

Personally, I liked it at first. The first few DVDs had a very varied selection of Toy Trains, Very nice Model Railroads, some interesting prototype information, and of course modelling tips.

The later DVDs though, I'm not impressed. The "Real Rails" sub-series has WAY too much repeated footage, sometimes one right after the other. The one on Coal showed the same NS coal train bounce over the same switch at least 3 times, as well as interview quotes being repeated. And WAY too much time was spent on NS, the only CSX was a single 20-year old clip, and they spent about 5 minutes on BNSF and UP.

What does /r/ think?

>> No.19409

I googled around abit and there's been some complaints with these things, i dont think i'd bother. Like the fact they went from about $10 a piece to $25.

Also as you said production isnt the best, Kalmbach can make a helluva magazine and a few yearly publications but i think they skimped on these.

>> No.19413

>>19409

Price jump? I don't remember them EVER being $10.

The biggest skimp I noticed was the DVD on Horseshoe Curve. It was an exact copy of a VHS I watched when I was a kid (still have it too)

Transnet has 212 new diesel-electric locomotives in the pipeline – to the extent that it is currently negotiating their purchase with Electromotive (EMD) in the United States. A figure of R6 billion has been mentioned, but exactly how numbers like this are affected by the see-sawing Rand-dollar exchange rate remains unclear. Also, it is understood the talks envisage an option to increase the order to 400 units. Presumably an adjustment of this order would require a further boost to Transnet’s already substantial capital expenditure budget. what they do not say what class and show us any photographs of what we are getting
