ELL OH FUCKING ELL

PAN AM formerly Guliford Rail is the worst railroad in the country, it's worse than fucking CSuX.

Essentially, you want to work for a railroad run by a trust fund kid of the Mellon banking family who like true capitalists try to do everything on the fucking cheap.

That includes purchasing 20-year old used locomotives, leaving track in horrible condition leading to frequent derailments, abandoning lines whenever you fucking please and leasing former stalwarts such as the B&M, the MEC and the D&H to a tiny fucking shortline (Springfield Terminal) that was only a stub track about 100 yards long... of course that was good for Guliford because it gave them a super cheap and advantageous union agreement.

Pan Am wants to be a class I but it never will be... heck it had to form Pan Am Southern with a joint venture with NS Horsecock.

Blah blah blah blah.

Plus I don't think old, grumpy screwed over B&M and MEC workers want some fucking autistic foamer working for them. They'd most likely have the bull toss you out in the wilderness of Maine.

Don't I know it. Every time some airline businessmen try to resurrect Pan Am, the endeavor fails. It was as if Juan Trippe's spirit reached from beyond the grave and said "Fuck that shit, and fuck you!" Sounds like he's doing the same to the railway.

Juan Trippe don't fuck around, man. He was such a fucking pimp, only Alec Baldwin could portray him as the guy who picked on that aspie we know as Howard Hughes.

woops might as well throw in a quote.

>"The show is hosted by Matt Brown, who The Globe says was a student at the University of Maine when he realized his passion for trains wasnft just a boyhood fantasy. He left the university and started working as a conductor for Conrail Boston, then on to what is now Pan Am Railways."

Same... however.

Subpar it is... but shortline it is not.

Pan Am practically controls freight in New England. As shown by this map here.

The only competitors Pan Am has freight wise is CSX which owns track from the border to Boston traveling along I-90.. the Class II Providence and "Woostah" (Worcester) and a Class III, RailAmerica's New England Central RR.

Although their shitty map says otherwise...

That may be so, but there's a rust hole that is the main giveaway... and other small clues, seems each FL9 has very subtle identification features. And I don't even consider myself to know anything about American locos... I'm just a modeller who looks for things I would replicate to present a loco as a given individual. Just like how you might recognise your car in a lot where there are other cars the same model and colour. Go on Hamcakes, tell me I've got the wrong railway. But I'd put $20 one the table to say I'm right.

2 axles on front trucks
3 axles on rear trucks (one axle unpowered, had to do with the weight rating of the locomotive within NYC)
3rd rail shoes, early FL-9s had pantographs as well. Revenue trains are not allowed to enter the underground approaches into Penn Station or Grand Central Terminal under diesel power, electric only. The development of the FL-9 locomotive eliminated diesel-to-electric power swaps for the New Haven to enter into NYC.

>> No.54029

60 were built but being the MTA's or Amtrak's only dual mode option until the P32 means that a lot were running until fairly recently, about 6 to 8 are still in running shape. You can probably still buy the things secondhand off the MTA. Only the Naugy runs FL9s in the NH scheme though, everyone else who operates them uses them as generic F unit stand ins.
