yarr they be standard.

There were places in China that looked like the US rail scene in the 40's and 50's, with steam and diesel running next to each other. Impressive stuff.

My only complaint with the QJ's is that they put a diesel horn on them.

>> No.19926

Funny thing about the QJs is that they were built some time around the 80s or 90s.

>My only complaint with the QJ's is that they put a diesel horn on them.

A poor sounding one at that -- but most still have the steam whistle. The three in the US right now have their original whistles, albeit air operated via floor pedals in the cab.

Unfortunately...they don't sound all that better anyway.

SPRINGFIELD TERMINAL ACCUSED OF FRAUD
A federal district court has been asked by a supplier of rail cars
to put Springfield Terminal Railway and Boston & Maine Corp.,
alternatively known as Guilford Transportation and Pan Am Railways,
under control of a court-appointed receiver in order that the rail
carrier, privately held and controlled by Timothy Mellon, pay its
bills.
Greenbrier said such an appointment "is warranted as defendants'
unfair, deceptive and fraudulent business practices have and continue
to have a significant negative impact on Greenbrier's ability to
conduct its business."
Greenbrier told the federal district court that the conduct by
Springfield Terminal of "knowingly and fraudulently entering into
contracts with creditors in a dilatory effort to resist payment of a
valid debt is the very same type of conduct that the Massachusetts

Fraud....

Lol that's nothing new with "the Big Bad G" errr I mean Pan Am.

Seriously, Gulidford is based off of Springfield Terminal... I mean come on... the only railroad out of New England (aside from CSX or as Snail would put it... CSuX) and it's was bulit from the ground up from a 6-mile short line...

And by the Guliford took over... it didn't even run daily and all it did was operate about a hundred yards and serve one customer, and then look what happened it swallowed up New England's true railroads, the Boston & Maine and the Maine Central and made them their bitches, and after raping B&M in the ass, they didn't use B&M labor agreements instead they consolidated into that little tiny shortline that ran between Springfield, Vermont, and Charlestown, New Hampshire, because it being a shortline had more management favorable agreements.

Pan Am Railways and it's parent company Pan Am Systems suck. I mean, Pan Am just killed their little Clipper Connection for their little airline and the DOT proposed to kill their certificate because "is not financially fit and does not possess the managerial competence to conduct any air transportation operations and has failed to comply with the regulations governing its operations."

>Springfield Terminal..

Terminal railroad and Bridge operators held very liberal labor agreements, like single crewman, or mobile operation, which have been used to leverage much, much larger labor concessions.. Was Mellon the first to do this?

>> No.19891

That's messed up, i've heard of things like that happening to small leasing companies in other industries but nothing on the scale of entire railroads.

Wow.

>> No.19927

Well, I was going to say that ST was/is a scab RR out to fuck labor, but I was beaten to the punch... However, while I say nasty things about CSXT, I never really belived ST would fall behind like this, although it goes to show you, once you get into fucking labor you just can't stop fucking around. Now if only the asses who run the "Wall Street Journal" figured it out... things could be better.

I've always wondered, what does it mean when they point?

>> No.19712

They told me it is part of the JR safety plan, they point at everything, signals, watch etc. I guess you could say it some sort of "check"

and btw. they don't do this on Hokkaido for some reason ?

>> No.19716

I didn't see that in early August when I went there. Then again, I wasn't really keeping an eye out for that then, so...

Yes, they say something like "shin go" for a green signal, I don't know what they say for the others (in my rides I never had a red signal) . Also, when they point at something, they go like "yush!" or "check oke da" what must mean ok ?

To be fair, I don't think the Chesapeake & Ohio is around to need a new ad campaign. Now it's the CSX, and all that line can do is advertise how much sucktacularity it produces.

CSX has single track out the ass. They need to sink a billion or two into their physical plant. That won't solve all their problems, but it certainly would improve throughput. (Incidentally, BNSF just upgraded their ex-ATSF Tehachapi/Cajon mainline from single track to triple. Track goes where?)
